The majority of people decide to do a TEFL course because they want to travel the world teaching English. However, have you ever realised that you could be doing that from your own home? Being a TEFL teacher does not necessarily mean travelling the world. Instead, you can use Skype and other online platforms and teach English from the comfort of your living room.
Of course, travelling to faraway destinations is usually the goal of people who want to become TEFL teachers, but packing your bags and moving to another country might not be as simple as you think. Maybe you need to work out your notice for your job, or perhaps you’re still saving up for that airplane ticket, or maybe you’ve decided you don’t actually want to leave your city. Whatever the reason, it is still possible to gain valuable teaching experience (and an income!) by teaching EFL students online.
How do you find online TEFL teaching jobs? Simple: go online and you will find them. There are actually a surprising number of different ways you can find an online TEFL teaching job. You could find students independently on online communities where students advertise for teachers; you could sign up with an established online school which will match students to you; or you could set up a website, advertise online and wait for the students to contact you.
Just as there is no shortage of people needing to learn English as a Foreign Language and so need teachers of English as a Foreign Language, so there are always opportunities for online TEFL teaching jobs. When you think about it, it makes sense that more and more people are turning to the internet to find teachers to help them learn English.
If you’re nervous about finding an online TEFL teaching job because you don’t know what to expect, don’t let that stop you from finding out more about it.
Having an online TEFL teaching job is becoming very common these days. There are so many advantages to being able to work online that if you are looking for a way to get some TEFL experience or you are looking for a TEFL job that doesn’t involve leaving the country, do some research and consider finding yourself an online TEFL teaching job.
Having an online TEFL teaching job is new to most people, but it’s not too complicated once you know what you’re doing. Basically you just need to be familiar with Skype or some other online platform and you’re good to go. Even if initially you might not feel comfortable teaching this way, the more you do it the more comfortable you’ll feel. Soon you could have an entire timetable of students waiting for their daily English lesson. What’s more, because of time differences you can work whatever anti-social hours you want.
