How can I become a blogger?

After you have completed several years of TEFL teaching, you may be interested in working as a professional blogger. This could be a blogger in the TEFL field or, if you are living abroad and/or working as a digital nomad, you could be a travel blogger. Due to the nature of blogging, you can work as a blogger while still working as an TEFL teacher.

Here are a few tips about becoming a professional blogger:

Make sure you know how to blog

This includes knowing how to promote your blog, market it, and use the various blog tools. The best way that this can be done is by setting up your own online blog: a good blog hosting site is WordPress .

Establish an online presence

This can best be done through social networking and forum participation, such as in Facebook groups and sites like Quora. Alternatively, you can use guest blogging; in other words, publishing your content on other websites. It’s quite a common practice in digital marketing.

It’s common to link a Facebook page and Instagram account to your blog. This will increase your reach in the online space.

Get blogging

Publish good-quality, well-researched blog posts. Make sure they are well-written and free from mistakes – don’t forget to proofread! Publishing blog posts regularly will help you build a reputation for yourself and gain readers.

Making money

If you establish yourself as a brand, it is possible to earn money from your blog. This can be through:

  • afilliate marketing
  • advertising
  • sponsored posts

And, of course, it’s a great way to promote yourself as a TEFL teacher!
