Can you imagine waking up every day whenever you want to, working whatever hours you choose, loving your job and earning the salary you’ve always dreamed of?
No, neither can we.
Don’t get us wrong: we firmly believe that being a TEFL teacher is the job of your dreams, but we’d be lying if we told you TEFL could give you all those things. Then again, there aren’t any jobs that we know of that do – otherwise we’d be doing them!
But TEFL is more likely to satisfy at least some of those conditions better than any other job you can think of. Don’t believe us? Here are our 5 reasons why TEFL is different to any other job:
No Sunday blues
Getting the Sunday blues just isn’t a thing in the world of TEFL. On the whole, TEFL teachers love what they do. Sure you may not want to get out of bed some days after a crazy night out, but your job will never make you want to fake sick, because students are awesome and we’re pretty sure you’ll love your job. Your students love you no matter who you are or where you’re from and teaching is able to give you satisfaction like no other job. So even your worst day at work is not that bad.
Being a TEFL teacher is not your usual 9 –to-5 gig. The beauty of the job is that it could change at any time and you never know what your teaching situation might be in a month. One week you could be working evenings teaching businessmen in Barcelona and the next you could teaching Young Learners for 4 days a week in Qatar.
It’s not a desk job
You don’t need to spend 8 hours a day behind a desk. In fact, you often don’t sit down for the whole day. You’re basically earning money for doing exercise. So you don’t have to spend all your money on gym fees and you won’t get eye strain from a computer.
You’re being paid to talk
When you think about, you’re actually being paid real money to have conversations with your students. Conversations with interesting people about interesting things. Not many other jobs can boast that.
You’re your own boss
Even though you answer to a Director of Studies or a manager of some kind, when you’re in the classroom you’re in charge and you can do what you want when you want.
So, if you were having doubts about embarking on a TEFL career, have a think about why a TEFL job is so different to any other.
The TEFL Academy was the world’s first TEFL course provider to receive official recognition from government regulated awarding bodies in both the USA and UK. This means when you graduate you’ll hold a globally recognised Level 3 (120hr) Certificate or Level 5 (168hr) Diploma, meaning you can find work anywhere and apply for jobs immediately.
