Teaching On LingoAce: What You Need To Know

Join a global community of over 200,000 TEFL teachers working throughout the world! Enrol me!

With the plethora of online platforms and companies offering English language lessons to learners and teaching positions to English teachers and tutors, it is difficult to know which online teaching companies are legit.

We’re going to get to the bottom of this by asking the people who really know what they’re talking about: the teachers themselves.

In this series, we talk to teachers currently teaching online in 2025 and ask them the important questions.

Meet Kate, a LingoAce tutor

Kate is 27 years old and based in Nelspruit, South Africa. She has a Master’s degree in History and a Level 3 TEFL qualification from The TEFL Academy. She is currently enrolled on the Level 5 TEFL course.

What is Kate’s origin story?

I chose to teach English online because it allows me to combine my love for education with the convenience of working from home. Online teaching provides me with the flexibility to connect with students globally and broaden my teaching experience beyond a traditional classroom setting.

Before moving online, I gained experience tutoring students at university, which fueled my passion for teaching and personal development.

Why did you choose LingoAce?

I began teaching on LingoAce in January 2025, working with learners across Asia. I teach children of all ages and skill levels, which has helped me develop the flexibility and creativity needed to meet diverse student needs.

Before joining LingoAce, I explored several other online teaching companies. Many of them, unfortunately, lacked adequate teacher support or offered low compensation, which made me hesitant to commit.

When researching platforms, I quickly realized how important it is to do your homework—don’t just rely on what’s on their website. I reached out to friends who teach and found YouTube incredibly useful, especially for watching demo video examples and listening to real teachers’ experiences.

In the end, a friend who was already teaching online recommended LingoAce to me. I’ll admit I was unsure at first—LingoAce primarily caters to children, which means the teaching style is highly interactive and often involves creativity, movement, and a lot of TPR (Total Physical Response).

At the time, that wasn’t my usual style, since I had tutored univeristy students previously. I wondered if I’d be a good fit. But I’m so glad I took the leap!

Teaching on LingoAce has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible. I’ve grown a lot—not just in teaching techniques, but also in confidence and adaptability. It’s a platform that truly encourages you to evolve as an educator.

How long have you been teaching on LingoAce  and what’s your experience so far?

I’ve been teaching on LingoAce for 6 months, and I’ve really enjoyed the experience so far.

The platform is easy to navigate, and the lesson materials are well planned, interactive, and can be adapted for students with different learning styles. I also appreciate how the lesson goals are given before each lesson, so that I know what the aim of the classes are. I enjoy working with learners of varying ages groups and levels and have seen notable progress in their English skills.

How easy was it to start teaching on LingoAce?

The application process

The application process at LingoAce is straightforward.

After filling out the online application form and submitting an introduction video, I was asked to record a brief 3-minute demo lesson. Before I knew it, I was accepted and welcomed onto the platform!

If LingoAce sees potential but feels your demo needs improvement, they’ll often give you a second chance to re-record it, which is encouraging and shows that LingoAce values its teaching staff.

Training and onboarding

LingoAce offers teaching training sessions and workshops to help you get started with confidence. I found these particularly helpful, and they made it possible for me to begin teaching quite quickly after joining.

Initial bookings & growth

I joined LingoAce at the start of the Chinese New Year, so bookings were a bit slow initially. Within just three weeks, that changed completely—I suddenly had more students than I expected, and my schedule filled up fast.

While the platform is competitive (as with most online teaching companies), success depends on your preparation and engagement. If you consistently prepare well, stay up to date with teaching strategies, and integrate engaging activities or games, your list of regular students will grow quickly.

Building student relationships

In the beginning, it might take time to secure regular students, especially since some teachers on the platform have years of experience and large followings. However, by focusing on building strong rapport and adapting to each student’s learning style, you can develop lasting relationships that lead to consistent bookings and long-term success.

Does LingoAce allocate students to you or do the students have to choose the teacher?

On LingoAce, students and/or their parents choose the teacher. This means that your ability to get bookings largely depends on how well you promote and market yourself on your teacher profile.

To increase your chances of getting bookings, it’s advisable to create a high-quality introduction video that showcases your personality, teaching style, and use of tools like TPR, and props. Ensure that your video has a neat, educational background and is friendly and engaging. In addition, you need to upload a professional-looking profile photo and write a brief, warm and informative bio that tells parents who you are and what makes you a great teacher.

Another key to attracting students is to open your schedule during peak hours. Weekends tend to be especially busy, making them ideal for gaining new regular and trial students. Peak hours are:

Monday to Friday: 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM Beijing Time (BJT)

Weekends: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM BJT

How much can teachers earn on LingoAce?

LingoAce pays $7 USD per 25-minute one-on-one class. If you’re accepted to teach group English classes, the compensation is significantly higher—up to $55 per hour.

This rate may vary depending on your location – teachers based outside of the U.S., U.K., Canada, or Australia might receive a different rate.

A stand-out feature of the platform is its incentive and bonus system. LingoAce uses a 10-tier structure, where your base rate increases once you’ve taught a certain number of classes. Once you reach a new tier, the additional per-class fee applies to all classes taught during that month, even those taught before reaching the new tier.

Other ways to boost your income include:

  • $5 bonus for each trial student who signs up after your class
  • Generous referral bonuses for bringing new teachers onto the platform
  • Half-pay if a student cancels within 24 hours or is a no-show
  • Paid workshops, offered occasionally

It’s worth noting that tasks like lesson planning, assignment marking, and writing reports are part of your teaching responsibilities but not compensated separately.

Payments are made mid-month and are deposited directly into your bank account.

What does a typical day look like for you?

What I love most about working with LingoAce is the flexibility it offersThere’s no minimum-hour requirement, so you can adjust your schedule to suit your lifestyle and availability.

At the moment, I teach around 20 hours per week. However, this doesn’t include prep time or tasks like grading assignments, writing reports, or reviewing student tests, so my actual workload is a bit higher. My weekly hours can fluctuate depending on cancellations, trial lessons, or if I choose to open additional slots when I have more capacity.

Since LingoAce operates on Beijing Time, I typically teach between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends, I sometimes start as early as 4 a.m. and go through to mid-afternoon, depending on demand and my energy levels!

One of the biggest advantages of teaching on the platform is the structured lesson content. LingoAce provides comprehensive materials and offers a variety of different learning programs, which significantly cuts down on planning time.

About 5 to 10 minutes is needed per class to review the material and determine if any extra scaffolding, props, or TPR techniques might help support student learning, especially with younger children or higher-level learners.

After each class, teachers are required to submit a brief report on the student’s performance, noting strengths and areas for improvement. Periodically, you’ll also need to complete unit or progress reports, and occasionally grade assignments that students submit.

Overall, the workload is very manageable if you’re organized, and the support and structure LingoAce provides make it a great option for teachers who value both flexibility and consistency.

What are your students like?

I enjoy teaching with LingoAce because I teach learners of all ages and levels! The students range in age from 2 years old to teenagers. Their goals depend on their program and level. Almost all of the students I teach are from China.

LingoAce is a large platform with many students and teachers. Initially, it can be challenging to get regular students. Over time, as I became more comfortable, my regular student base grew.

Patience and persistence are key to finding students that fit well with you. Some of my students have been with me since I started teaching! So far, I have taught only 1:1 classes, but LingoAce also offers group lessons.

How does the student feedback system work?

While LingoAce does offer parents and students the option to rate and review teachers, this is not obligatory.

Most parents will simply not rebook lessons with you if they feel you are not a good fit for their child. This can make it difficult to get useful feedback. However, a few parents have left me feedback, which has really helped me to know how to better support my students in their learning goals.

There are several ways that parents can leave reviews. While you cannot directly correspond with parents, they can leave a message in the chat function during class or provide a review of your services afterwards.

Although I don’t report directly to a supervisor, LingoAce offers a professional support team that can assist you.  If a parent is unhappy for any reason and leaves a complaint, this can impact future bookings, so it’s important to be disciplined and organized.

Is teaching on LingoAce sustainable as a full-time job?

To date, I’ve found that LingoAce offers enough work to enable me to teach full-time on the platform.

Since building up a regular roster of students, I haven’t felt it necessary to apply elsewhere. However, this may vary for individual teachers and depending on the time of year and booking volumes, it may be more practical to work part-time on LingoAce, while maintaining a profile with other platforms.

Have you experienced any technical issues?

LingoAce has a permanent team of IT experts on hand to help you resolve issues quickly. In addition to this, you can receive support via the chat group on Microsoft Teams, where experienced teachers are on hand to offer guidance and advice.

The platform is very reliable, but like any online system, glitches and errors do sometimes occur – either on the student’s end or on the platform itself.

Living in South Africa means that disruptions can occur regularly. By planning ahead, it’s possible to manage potential issues.

I learned this the hard way, after I had to cancel an entire day of teaching due to a sudden power failure! I was penalised heavily, and wanting to avoid that happening again, I invested in a UPS and identified back-up locations with stable power and internet.

Does LingoAce offer support to teachers?

A definite advantage to working on LingoAce is the supportive teaching community.

Once you’re accepted onto the platform, you’ll receive an invitation to join the LingoAce channel on Teams. This is such a great feature because you can connect with other teachers from all around the world, and there is always an administrator on duty to assist you should you need help.

I found the community to be very helpful and welcoming, and if you’re stuck with lesson planning, there is always someone to give you advice!

LingoAce:

  • has a training website, where they offer workshops and training modules to help you on your teaching journey.
  • offers a training site with workshops and self-paced modules to support your professional growth.
  • is expanding its presence on social media, so even more resources and ideas for teachers will soon be available.

Would you recommend LingoAce?

My experience with LingoAce has been incredibly rewarding.

It’s allowed me to step into the English teaching world and has opened up so many opportunities for me. I’ve learned so much from interacting with my students, and I value the chance to see them learn and grow.

I appreciate the flexibility being on the platform has granted me, as well as the format of the classes. The community is upbeat and encouraging, and it’s clear that LingoAce emphasizes a structured and welcoming working environment.

While there have been occasional tech hiccups, they’ve been minor and well-managed. While I may not stay on the platform long-term, as I hope to eventually teach English overseas, I’m so grateful for the experience and would recommend LingoAce for teachers looking for a dynamic and flexible working environment.
