DescriptionDzongsar Khyentse Chokyi Lodro Institute (DKCLI) is seeking volunteer English Language Teachers to join our monastic college in Chauntra, Himachal Pradesh, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas. This is a rare opportunity to contribute meaningfully to monastic education while living in a beautiful and contemplative environment.
Volunteer teachers support Buddhist monks who are studying classical Buddhist philosophy in Tibetan. English classes are offered as an important extracurricular subject, helping students develop practical and academic English skills for global engagement.
Teaching takes place at a traditional monastic college and offers a deeply rewarding cultural and educational experience for the right person.
What you will do:
- Teach English to Buddhist monks for 15 hours per week, spread over five teaching days
- Â Work with learners ranging from Beginner to Advanced levels
- Classes are taught barefoot and seated on the floor, in keeping with the monastic environment
- Â Enjoy a two-day weekend (Thursday and Friday) each week
- Excellent teaching materials and coursebooks are provided

Benefits- This is a voluntary position and does not offer a salaried wage. However, volunteers receive a monthly stipend of INR 15,000 (approximately USD 165) to help cover personal expenses
- Furnished accommodation is provided at no cost, either within a Tibetan Buddhist monastery or at a nearby local homestay.
- A daily vegetarian lunch is available in the monastery dining hall, with weekend meals also offered if desired -
Requirements- Native Level English speakers
- An Accredited TEFL is preferred
- Able to commit to 4 or 9 months
- Available to start in March or June 2026 -
