When you decide to invest in a TEFL course because you want to teach English as a foreign language, it’s important to make sure you’re getting a course certificate which will be recognised by potential employers all over the world. That means you should look for a course that has accreditation and regulation.
Accreditation
Accreditation demonstrates that you receive high-quality tuition at a standard that is recognised by a government body. For example, The TEFL Academy has received official recognition from government regulated awarding bodies both in the US and UK. Their TEFL courses are DEAC-approved as meeting the criteria for Approved Quality Curriculum (AQC) status. The DEAC is a U.S. Department of Education recognised awarding body. The course is regulated by Ofqual (UK government department) and awarded by Qualifi, a UK government recognised awarding body.
The TEFL Academy’s Level 5 TEFL Certificate (168hrs) is the same level to the following qualifications: a diploma of higher education (DipHE), a foundation degree, 2 years at university and the CELTA and Trinity CertTESOL qualifications.
When you take a TEFL course it should offer you a minimum of 120 hours. This can be 120 hours of study online Or 120 hours of online study including 20 hours face-to-face training which also gives you classroom experience.
Any less than this and you are unlikely to be offered jobs working in schools abroad and at home that want to find properly qualified TEFL teachers. This might mean that you will not receive a legal contract or a decent rate of pay. Accreditation is so important.
Good prospective employers want:
- An accredited TEFL certificate that’s recognised in their country
- Teachers who have received good quality tuition
Being accredited and regulated means that The TEFL Academy can offer their students a high-quality course with a certificate that is recognised all over the world. Our jobs board is the proof that our certification will secure you work teaching English as a foreign language.
