Your TEFL-Travel Horoscope: Your Ideal Destination Based On Your Star Sign

Ever wondered how your zodiac sign might align with your best teaching location? Probably not but your zodiac sign might just be the key to your TEFL dream!

Your star sign (a.k.a. sun sign or birth sign) is determined by the sun’s position at birth. It’s the core of your zodiac chart. It not only shapes your behaviour but  reveals key personality traits.

The zodiac is grouped into four elements: fire, earth, air, and water. Each element represents different traits and energies. 

Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are passionate and energetic, often seeking excitement. 

Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are intuitive, emotional, and deeply connected to their surroundings, often drawn to nurturing and reflective environments.

Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) are practical, stable, and grounded, preferring structure and reliability. 

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are intellectual, communicative, and adaptable, thriving on new ideas and experiences.

Believe it or not, you may be able to find the best places to live based on your star sign! Each star sign has a location that best aligns with its unique characteristics. 

For example, an introverted Piscean might not thrive in a busy city like Tokyo, but could do really well in a quiet, tranquil environment like a coastal town in Portugal.

Fire signs

Fire signs love excitement, challenges, and action. They might thrive in a busy city or anywhere with a vibrant expat community.

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

Aries are fiery, bold and ambitious leaders with an impulsivity that can land them in hot water at the best of times. Aries is ruled by Mars, the god of war, who fans the flames of passion. They simply headbutt their way through any challenge! 

Ideal teaching destination for Aries: The fast-paced lifestyle of teaching in places like South Korea or Thailand, where the energy is high and constantly shifting.

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

Ruled by the sun, Leos radiate warmth and energy.  They are bold and passionate with a love for attention and a flair for the dramatic. They may be stubborn, but their enthusiasm is unstoppable. 

Ideal teaching destination for Leos: The lively streets of Argentina, the land of tango, and Chile with its rugged mountain trails.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)

Sagittarius is generally an expressive, cheerful sign with a large presence. If we’re blunt, Sag can be a tad over the top and opinionated. They love to explore unknown territory and make a wonderful partner in crime. Fantasy and spirituality are also right up their alley. 

Ideal teaching destination for Sagittarius: The mystery and quirkiness of Cambodia or the hustle and bustle of China.

Water signs

Intuitive and emotional, water signs are often drawn to places that offer tranquillity with a deep connection to culture and community.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)

Scorpio has a reputation for being mysterious, intense and secretive. Ruled by Mars and Pluto, fierce Scorpio is associated with deep mystical transformation. Scorpios transform continuously through intense life changes, shedding old versions of themselves like the Phoenix. 

Ideal teaching destination for Scorpios:  Small-town Spain, which provides a slower pace of life where deep connections can be made, or the dense pine forests, volcanic mountains and rocky shores of Japan.

Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Pisces is deeply connected to the subconscious. A natural daydreamer, they can sometimes get lost in their own thoughts. A Pisces has impressive intuition and a knack for picking up on things others might miss. They are one of the most sensitive and romantic signs in the zodiac.

Ideal teaching destination for Pisces: The serene seaside towns of Portugal or the mysticism of Turkey, with its ancient history and surreal beauty 

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Known as the nurturers of the zodiac, Cancer is motherly, loyal and compassionate. However, they can be indecisive and distant at times, a little crabby one might say. 

Ideal teaching destination for Cancer:  The warm-hearted close-knit community and laid-back culture of Indonesia, or the friendly, family-oriented culture of Greece. The natural beauty of these places satisfies their need to be grounded.

Earth signs

Grounded and practical, earth signs tend to prefer stability and comfort. They thrive in places that match their steady and goal-oriented nature.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Taurus is ruled by Venus and associated with money. Taurus has a strong presence and lasting endurance. Their bullish nature can endure many challenges, and loves comfort, beauty and pleasure. 

Ideal teaching destination for Taureans:  The beauty and indulgence of places like Tuscany in Italy, or the delicious food, affordable lifestyle and natural beauty of Vietnam.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

Virgo is a practical sign prone to perfection and nervous energy. This energy becomes electric at times thanks to its ruler, Mercury. No flaw will go unnoticed by Virgo’s eye for detail but this is only to ensure they achieve the best result in whatever they do. 

Ideal teaching destination for Virgos: The organised infrastructure and combination of busy cities and quiet countryside of the UK, and the cleanliness and order of Singapore.  

Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)

Capricorn is symbolised by a mythical half-goat, half-fish creature called a seagoat. Ruled by Saturn, they are known workaholics who are goal-focused, practical and patient. Their stubborn streak makes them determined. 

Ideal teaching destination for Capricorns:  Berlin, Germany, with its urbanised districts coloured with vibrant graffiti art and expansive green spaces, or China, where ambition and discipline are highly valued.

Air signs

Intellectual and curious, air signs are great at adapting to new ideas and environments. If you’re an air sign, you might love teaching in dynamic, ever-evolving places.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)

Gemini’s symbol represents a two-sided personality capable of understanding things from multiple perspectives. They can be unpredictable and restless but love learning and have a witty tongue. 

Ideal teaching destination for Geminis:  The fast pace of South Korea, with its endless opportunities for social interaction and exploration, Mexico, perfect for the adventurous TEFL teacher who wants to explore colourful, energetic cities and ancient ruins or bum it on a sun-soaked beach during their down time.
