Teaching Babies in Beijing
I came to China just over 5 months ago! I really enjoy it here and there are many different things to experience and learn. I have travelled quite a lot before, but I would say the hardest part about living here is the language barrier!
Although I am picking up more of the language now, when I first moved here it was quite hard to learn how to get around and just simple things like buying something from the supermarket. Here in Beijing the main mode of transport is subway and the city is huge! It’s actually a lot colder than I thought it would be, and I know right now its colder here than in the UK! Although the summers are hot too.
I have also had opportunities with work to travel to different cities in China, and I went to Xiamen for a few weeks for work which was good as it’s in the South of China and was way warmer! It also was a bit quieter than Beijing which is nice sometimes! In China there are many different places to visit and some really good things you can do like visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, along with the shops and bars.
In Beijing I teach babies and children from 3 months old to 7 years old. It can be quite challenging but is a good career path and development opportunity, and also you gain great experience. I teach music, art, cooking, gym, oral English, dance and sports. As part of my work we also get to put on events and the children get to have fun, for example we did a Halloween and a Christmas event.
“Teaching is a great way to travel and see the world!”
The training with The TEFL Academy was really useful and helped me before I came to China. The intensive weekend that I attended was good because I learned a lot in a short time, and it’s great for anyone who wants to get qualified quickly! Loads of modules were covered and I also gained practical experience, and all the people I met were really nice!
I would recommend coming to China for a teaching job. It’s actually one of the highest paid places to work as a TEFL teacher. I also would say before moving anywhere and taking a job in a different place in the world, do your research on the place and the company like you should do with anything!
