Living My Best Life in Poland
I am Nombuso “Naomie” Ngwenya, currently 26 years old from South Africa.
Let me take you a few years back before I became a full time English teacher. I worked in a finance industry. I was happy for some time but I couldn’t travel as my work was a challenging job. At some point I stopped my social life and I remember one night, I was listening to a radio show and the CEO of The TEFL Academy was talking about this TEFL course and I got so intrigued and listened attentively. The next day I started doing my research and set my focus on the TEFL course.
I had also enrolled for the classroom workshop which was hosted by The TEFL Academy. That’s when I knew I had chosen the right part and attending this workshop motivated me and led me to finish my course in 4 weeks.
I have always loved travelling and teaching. My first experience teaching was when I was still in College in Accounting class I would stand in front of the class and teach my classmates whenever our lecturer was absent, and now that I had my TEFL certificate, I knew the dream of travelling and teaching was about to become a reality.
So, 2019 I started applying for jobs that I had found on The TEFL Academy website and got an offer in Poland, Europe and that’s how the “LIVING MY BEST LIFE IN POLAND” title started!
My advice to anyone wanting to teach English abroad is that, you should just go for it!
I have been working for different schools but the one that comes to mind and that has kind of became my home is OLTON ACADEMY in the capital city of Poland in Warsaw. I teach all levels from small kids to teenagers and adults and honestly, I couldn’t have chosen any better place.
Poland is a great place. I’ve had the opportunity of visiting 6 cities since I started staying here, and all cities are almost the same: they all have beautiful old European buildings, well designed sculptured churches, lot of forests with breath-taking lakes, and historical museums. Another thing that made me want to settle in this lovely country is the fact that it has a reliable transport system, and is one of the safest countries in the world – that was a big relief for me as I am from South Africa, a country with a very high crime rate.
Polish people are the sweetest people you’ll ever meet; they are so friendly, always willing to help, always willing to teach you about their culture, their food, their traditions, It’s just AMAZING! Not forgetting that the food is quite affordable too, which is a bonus.
My TEFL certificate definitely worked magic in Poland. It opened so much opportunities for me, from working online to working in-class with different schools and also being able to go for all-expenses-paid summer camp holidays.
My advice to anyone wanting to teach English abroad is that you should just go for it! You only have one life and the world has 7 continents; you can’t be stuck up in one place, you were born to explore all different parts of the world. Just do it!
