A new continent, new lifestyle, everything brand new
I am Vard from Armenia. Currently, I teach online to students mainly from ASIA.
It was in 2019 when I made my mind to start my journey as an ESL teacher.
Though I hold a BA degree in the English language, most teaching jobs abroad require a worldwide recognized teaching certificate. So with the help of The TEFL Academy, I could earn an approved certificate by the UK and the USA government recognized bodies, and find a job in China. “China is a diverse country”, – I thought “I could pursue a teaching career and explore the country”. And I was absolutely correct: a new continent, new lifestyle, everything brand new.
And here comes Shaoxing, a city near Shanghai famous for its traditional Chinese bridges, wine, and a huge number of textile factories and production. I taught English to students, aged between 5-14 at a training center and public school.
During my winter holiday, I could travel to Shanghai, a popular tourist destination known for its historical landmarks, many skyscrapers, museums, etc. I had a notable experience reaching the 119th floor in just a minute, and there is the Shanghai Tower, the second tallest building in the world. Overall, I had a significant experience in China.
Unfortunately, I left the country due to the spread of Covid-19.
Teaching English has taken me on a wonderful journey, and I’m so glad I decided to take the chance.
Since then I have been teaching English online, again with new challenges, facing a new normal during the pandemic, but believe me it is so much fun. Conducting lessons online is flexible and allows much more effective professional development. I teach students of different ages and backgrounds from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, and many others.
Teaching English has taken me on a wonderful journey, and I’m so glad I decided to take the chance.
