Education
Upon completion of this course, I will have learned practical intercultural skills and increased my understanding of intercultural competence.
Especially in the context of education, this will allow me to talk about and address intercultural opportunities and challenges, develop strategies in order to respond to diverse and hybrid identities in a fairer way, and promote social justice and respect for different languages, preventing conflicts and enhancing societal cohesion.
• Internationally recognised Level 5 TEFL Diploma (168 hours), attesting the foreign language and teaching skills required to take up positions in educational establishments or to work independently as a private tutor.
• Supplementary certificate in teaching English to young learners, focusing on the main aspects of the development of cognitive and learning skills of children, in order to be able to tailor lessons and courses to their needs and learning styles.
• Formally conferred July 2022.
• Degree classification: Distinction.
• Modules taken focused on the acquisition of skills required to undertake independent research, especially in the context of my thesis, as well as the extensive use of software pieces to conduct analyses in the fields of Phonetics and Phonology, Corpus Linguistics and Public and Professional Discourse.
• My thesis involved the creation of a corpus of public apology videos posted on YouTube by influencers and its macro- and micro-analysis respectively in terms of image-repair strategies and the lexical realisations of apologies.
• Degree classification: First Class Honours.
• Modules taken include: Language Acquisition, Psycholinguistics, Forensic Linguistics, and Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL).
• My final year project explored the linguistic priming of native speakers of English using atypical grammatical structures deriving from the interference with Italian, with the aim of investigating whether long-term priming effects deriving from cross-linguistic interference may be contemplated.
