Education
I received my Bachelors degree from Rutgers University in Linguistics with a minor in Education and a certificate in Speech & Hearing Sciences. I have taken extensive coursework in the study of the structure, sound systems, and meaning of the English language.
Experience
As a conversational assistant in Spain, I create engaging weekly lessons and activities for students ages 12-18 in tangent with their normal English coursework with an added focus on American cultural elements. In the classroom, I facilitate conversation practice through skits, prompted scenarios, games, and general classroom activities. Outside of class, I organize weekly small-group practice sessions with students at ranging levels of English proficiency to work on a more personalized approach to English language learning.
In this role, I formulated a ten week accredited course with engaging content, integrating linguistics and speech & hearing sciences with important conversations surrounding personal wellness, academic success, and diversity and inclusion. I fostered individualized classroom instruction and activities to cater to the needs and interests of students, cultivate positive rapport, and promote the interaction of students with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
For the summer school program, I was promoted to substitute teach in a classroom that no longer had a teacher. In this role, I developed 2 months of lesson plans in accordance with school standards and student needs for the extended school year program for a classroom of students predominantly with visual impairments while maintaining academic work, structure, and routine within the classroom as the room transitioned teachers.
As a paraprofessional, I worked to help teachers provide a safe and educational space for children with wide ranging disabilities, specifically students with hearing loss and concomitant impairments while aiding in the development of weekly lesson plans with accommodations for students’ IEPs. With my substitute teaching certification, I routinely act as the main teacher in different classrooms.
