Experience
As an English Assistant in a public primary school in Madrid Spain, I work closely with English and other bilingual subject faculty to develop supplemental classroom materials and activities to enhance textbook activities. I frequently work with students in small groups, focusing on individual learning styles. I also lead full-class review activities and interactive games. I have experience working with students primarily aged 8-12, with some experience with younger children as well.
I received 9 hours of training in lesson planning and methodology from the Literacy Pittsburgh staff before beginning this position. I then conducted weekly 1:1 meetings with an adult English student to help her improve her conversational fluency. I worked with two students over my time as a Tutor.
In this position I facilitated weekly small group conversation between nonnative English speakers and English language learners of varying proficiencies. I also contributed to the development of lesson content and materials as well as being chosen to serve in a leadership role for other volunteers in the delivery of content as a Lead Facilitator shortly before programs were paused due to the pandemic.
