Austria Job Listings
Located in the heart of the Alps, Austria offers breathtaking views at nearly every turn. Travel into the mountains from the city and you will find yourself passing through valleys carved into the foothills of mountains, and roads chiselled almost impossibly into the rocky sides of cliffs. Austria is truly a country blessed with an outstanding natural beauty and a splendid cultural heritage to go with it.
If you find a TEFL job in Austria, you can enjoy plenty of sunshine and a very pleasant climate during the summer months, spending weekends hiking, cycling and rafting in the mountains, or just people watching as you enjoy a coffee at one of Vienna’s many famous Kaffeehauskultur. In the winter months the country then transforms into a paradise for anyone with a passing interest in winter sports. The opportunities to burn calories in such a large variety of ways can be of great benefit for those who develop a penchant for the amazing pastries and cakes on offer in every bakery you walk past. Whilst there is the obvious attraction of having the mountains on your doorstep, TEFL teachers are also drawn to Austria by its rich history and especially its musical heritage. Just imagine closing your eyes and not too far away is the sound of water lapping against the shore of the lake. Then realise this is as you wait for the next orchestra to take the stage at the Bregenzer Festspiele, just one of a number of music festivals set in simply stunning locations.
Bordered by an almost uncountable number of European countries, Austria truly is a wonderful melting pot of language, music and culture. When you are there, take the chance to learn some German or be entranced by the beauty of a classical concert. It is impossible not to fall in love with the Gothic architecture and be captivated by the Baroque interiors you find inside the many churches dotted around the capital. Whether in the daytime or the evening out and about in Vienna, many compare it to walking around an open-air museum. The rise of bilingual education in Austria’s secondary school system means there has been a growing demand for native English speakers within the country. In addition to teaching in the schools, there are also EFL jobs to be found all around Austria, with the demand for Business English lessons being very high. Many have found that once they have established themselves, then the opportunity to boost earnings with private lessons is an attractive and lucrative option. Whilst the majority of language institutions are naturally located in and around Vienna, or other large towns such as Salzburg and Innsbruck, there is also the chance to teach somewhere quieter too. In addition, the pay for EFL teachers in Austria is also quite high, making it an attractive destination for those with a TEFL certificate; however, if you are from outside the EU, then be warned that you could find it very difficult to obtain the necessary visa to teach.
