Teaching On Langu: What You Need To Know
Join a global community of over 200,000 TEFL teachers working throughout the world! Enrol me!
With the plethora of online platforms offering English language lessons to learners, and teaching positions to English teachers and tutors, it is difficult to know which online teaching companies are legit.
We’re going to get to the bottom of this by asking those who know best: the teachers themselves.
In this series, we’ll talk to teachers currently teaching online in 2025 and ask them the important questions.
Meet Nancy, a Langu tutor
Nancy is a qualified accountant from South Africa who has transitioned into an online English teacher. She teaches General English on Langu, as well as specialising in Business English for accountants. She now has more than nine years of teaching and tutoring experience.
Why did you choose Langu?
Choosing the correct platform to teach through can greatly impact a teacher’s career. Before choosing Langu, I applied to several other online teaching platforms, each with their own individual structures and models. Unlike the other platforms that featured strict schedules and predetermined curricula, Langu had flexibility, which drew me to it.
What are the Langu tutor requirements? Does Langu accept anyone?
You don’t need a degree or a TEFL qualification to teach on Langu, but a TEFL certificate will certainly help you get approved. You don’t need to be a native speaker of English but your English needs to be at a C2 level.
Langu prides itself on tutors with well-rounded skills, so though experience and qualifications are important, people skills, passion and specialised knowledge are appreciated.
As their website states: “Emphasise what makes you unique – your teaching and professional background, interests, the places you’ve lived in and travelled to, the kinds of lessons you like to conduct.”
How easy was it to start teaching on Langu?
One of the best features of Langu is the very user-friendly interface.
The profile set-up was easy and I was guided throughout the process. The upload of a high-quality photo, crafting of an engaging bio, and pricing set-up were seamless. The step-by-step guidance was of great assistance.
The entire process took about an hour. My introduction video took the most time, and this was not due to the platform, but because I had never made a video before it required several retakes!
Once my profile was completed, I was ready to go.

Does Langu allocate students to you or do the students have to choose the teacher?
The students have their own choice of teachers instead of being assigned to one.
Because of this, I immediately understood the significance of making my profile stand out with a polished, yet approachable photo, a well-written bio, and a clear breakdown of what students can do.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My usual workday starts at 8.00 am and ends at 1.00 pm (as I’m an early riser). Occasionally, I teach in the afternoons. I sometimes use afternoons for administrative and lesson-planning tasks.
What are your students like?
My students range from five-year-olds to adults in their sixties – from various backgrounds. My teaching is interesting and lively due to the wide range of learning objectives and individuality required.
Some students only attend a couple of lessons before leaving, while others come back frequently. This enables us to establish a rapport and work on long-term progress.

What support does Langu offer teachers?
I truly love the fact that Langu is an all-in-one platform.
You can integrate teaching materials into the platform by uploading them directly to the website before or during class. Enabling direct teaching on Langu eliminates the need to manage multiple software programs like MS Teams or Zoom. This simple process removes a great deal of hassle to both teachers and students.
Langu assists educators with lesson planning, though it’s not as comprehensive as some other platforms. They answer questions promptly and offer an educational blog with helpful posts. New teachers might have to rely on their own experiences or use outside resources to enhance their teaching methods, due to the unavailability of a comprehensive system of mentorship or training.
In addition, Langu offers a course page where instructors can provide more than one English lesson. It allows course creation on topics of interest or exploring other educational areas to add to another potential revenue stream.
And, Langu offers marketing assistance, which is a wonderful bonus. Although the platform includes a search-friendly directory that assists students in finding new tutors, teachers are ultimately in control of attracting new students.

How does the student feedback system work?
After each lesson ends, students use the Langu rating system to rate their experience on a scale of 1 to 5 stars.
It’s essential to maintain a high rating to attract new students, as they can view this before scheduling a lesson. Both teachers and students gain transparency through the rating process. This encourages educators to continuously deliver top-notch instruction. And it gives students a sense of security as they can review the tutor’s performance history and, on this basis, make their choice of educator.
New Langu teachers should take note that it is of paramount importance to encourage students to write reviews. Good reviews have a big influence on visibility, which contributes to increased bookings.
Have you experienced any technical issues?
A platform’s technical stability matters to online educators.
I am thankful that during my five years of teaching, Langu has proven to be very dependable. I encountered one outage during this period, and the platform informed me promptly of the problem and provided updates while resolving the issue.
How much do teachers earn on Langu?
One of Langu’s greatest benefits is the ability for teachers to determine their pricing structure exclusive to them. Although the platform does offer guidelines on pricing, the instructor sets their rates.
Tutors on Langu charge from $10 to $55 an hour, and Langu takes a 15% commission.
I advise new teachers to start at a lower price range in order to attract new students and progressively increase prices with experience. This contributes towards gaining confidence, building goodwill and receiving good feedback from students.
This model makes scalability possible. More seasoned educators with high ratings can charge more to establish sustainability with a steady flow of income revenue. Using Langu, educators will experience an equitable and teacher-friendly system, unlike other platforms with set pay rates and hefty commissions.
Langu also enables teachers to provide discounted bundled lesson packages, which helps to attract long-term students, leading to an increase in financial stability.
Furthermore, the platform provides several payment methods. This makes it simple and easy for educators everywhere to receive payment without any unnecessary hassles.

Would you recommend teaching on Langu?
Most definitely!
Langu is a great option which offers teachers adaptability, autonomy, and artistic control over the lessons they design. It works for both full-time and part-time teachers.
Langu enables educators to:
- Have a positive work-life balance with the freedom to choose their work hours, which allows for quality time.
- Craft specialised courses that meet the needs of their students. (The ability to modify instructions meant I didn’t have to roll out a strategy using the “one-size-fits-all” method.)
- Teachers can have a pricing structure without any restrictions. This provides the flexibility to adjust and modify fees based on expertise to establish your reputation.
But, it requires your self-motivation, together with proactive marketing. Because students choose their tutors, it’s crucial to have a strong profile, constant good ratings, and improve your instruction methods. This ensures you attract students and retain them.
I love working with a variety of students from different backgrounds, and I can tailor my courses to offer them choices that best suit their needs.
“I intend to keep using Langu indefinitely. If you are prepared for some hard work, you will find Langu to be a lucrative and fulfilling platform.”
