Teaching On EduSogno: What You Need To Know

Join a global community of over 200,000 TEFL teachers working throughout the world! Enrol me!

With the plethora of online platforms offering English language lessons to learners, and teaching positions to English teachers and tutors, it is difficult to know which online teaching companies are legit.

We’re going to get to the bottom of this by asking those who know best: the teachers themselves.

In this series, we’ll talk to teachers currently teaching online in 2025 and ask them the important questions.

Meet Sonya, an Edusogno tutor

Sonya is an experienced English teacher and teacher trainer based in South Africa. She helps students develop practical communication skills.

Let’s hand the mic to Sonya to tell you more about Edusogno and give you an honest Edusogno review.

Headshot of online teacher Sonya

Sonya: My teaching journey began in 2019  in South Korea. Now I teach students of all ages and levels online, from  Beginners to professionals across Europe, Asia, and beyond.

That’s the backstory in a nutshell. Now for the burning questions…

Why did you choose Edusogno?

What first drew me to Edusogno was its fresh energy. It’s a startup founded by young European university students, and I was genuinely curious to see what kind of ideas and approaches they were bringing to the table.

After years of working with more traditional schools, I was excited about the prospect of joining a team that felt fun, modern, and learner-driven.

I did a fair bit of research before applying. I read through their website, explored their LinkedIn presence, and even reached out to some of their tutors to hear about their experiences firsthand!

I was looking for:

fair pay

stable hours

consistent scheduling — without overload or too much downtime.

What ultimately sealed the deal was the vibe: fresh lesson content, topics I enjoyed teaching, and a wonderful group of mostly young European adults who made every session feel more like a conversation than work.

Sonya did her homework, and so should you – no matter which online platform you choose.

What’s been your experience so far with Edusogno?

I’ve been teaching with Edusogno for over a year now and am still going strong, which says a lot!

I genuinely enjoy the work. Classes are conversational, fun, and engaging. I also get to connect with young European adults from all walks of life, from university students to professionals across a range of industries.

Edusogno is always evolving.

If you’re someone who enjoys change and thrives on a challenge, you’ll likely find the environment exciting too. The platform constantly tests out new systems, procedures, and even teaching methods, so flexibility and a positive attitude go a long way.

For me, the combination of steady hours, reliable pay, and dynamic teaching keeps things fresh, and that’s why I’ve stuck around.

Ah, the joys and thrills of constant innovation, a constant stream of lessons AND reliable pay? We can see the appeal. Tell us more.

How easy was it to start teaching on Edusogno?

I applied via LinkedIn by submitting my resume to the job post.

After that, I had an interview with someone from HR and then completed a demo lesson. If the demo goes well, you can begin teaching for a trial month.

All lessons are conducted via Google Meet.

Training was easy and fully asynchronous. You watch a video that explains how to teach a lesson using their specific procedure, and it also shows you how to use the platform.

The system is very straightforward. I started teaching immediately after setting my availability.

The platform functions like an agenda, showing your scheduled classes, the lesson slides for each one, and the Google Meet link to join.

There’s an admin section where you can monitor your hours and pay.

Managers are available if you need support during onboarding, but honestly, everything is self-explanatory.

Onboarding? Check. But what about the students you’ll meet day to day?

Does Edusogno allocate students to you, or do the students have to choose the teacher?

Students don’t choose their teachers; the school assigns them to you.

You’re allocated classes based on your availability. You’ll generally work with the same students for a month at a time.

After that, they rotate to a new teacher, as students typically purchase courses that span a few months and are intentionally rotated between tutors monthly.

During your trial month, the school schedules classes according to your stated availability.

You might not be fully booked at first. If your trial is successful, you’re expected to be exclusively available to the school full-time — teaching 42 hours a week across six days.

This exclusivity applies during their operating hours (8:00 AM–10:00 PM Italian time), and you commit to being available whether your schedule is full or not, i.e., you cannot choose your availability.

What is the pay structure on Edusogno?

During the trial period, you’re paid an hourly rate of €5.70 ($6.7) a class, with a slightly higher rate of €6.00 ($7) for peak-time slots (generally in the evenings).

Your earnings during your trial month are entirely dependent on how much you teach, minus any deductions for student no-shows, cancellations, or late/missed classes.

Once you pass your trial period and move into a full-time role, you earn a fixed monthly salary based on a 42-hour teaching week spread over six days. There are also opportunities to earn more by picking up substitution lessons.

Penalties still apply for cancellations, student no-shows, or late/missed classes, so maintaining a solid performance is important.

In general, it’s possible to earn up to around €1,000 ($1,200) a month, depending on your performance and how many extra classes you take on.

What does a typical day look like for you?

The workload is manageable, though classes are spread out sporadically across the school’s operating hours (8:00 AM to 10:00 PM Italian time), seven days a week.

On average, I teach six to seven lessons a day, with some peak days like Thursday or Friday going up to 9 lessons. It balances out with quieter days during the week.

Edusogno lessons are about an hour long.

All materials are provided, and group speaking lessons follow a consistent format.

Prep is minimal — you simply adjust for the student level and topic.

Schedules are posted weekly, usually by Sunday afternoon or as early as Friday.

While the schedule is published weekly, it generally stays the same for the full month, which helps with planning your personal life around the school’s teaching schedule.

There is no paperwork after lessons — just the initial contract and submitting WISE payment details. The only real challenge is working around the unpredictable spread of hours throughout the day.

No admin you say? That’s a relief! But who are these students?

What are your students like?

The students are amazing — fun, curious, and genuinely appreciative. Most are young adults from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East, though I’ve taught high school students, professionals, and even retirees looking to sharpen their English skills.

I teach group speaking lessons with up to five students a class, each lasting an hour. I typically work with the same group for a month before the school rotates students to new tutors.

While I only teach group conversation classes, the school also offers one-to-one lessons and IELTS preparation courses. I wasn’t trained to teach IELTS myself, but many students join the school specifically for that, and the conversation classes I lead are often part of their broader exam prep package.

Overall, the students are engaged, open to correction, and incredibly diligent. It’s a pleasure teaching them — they make every class feel worthwhile.

How does the student feedback system work?

Students can rate teachers from 1 to 5 stars, though it’s not mandatory.

They can assess specific aspects like punctuality, clarity, and overall class management, and optionally leave comments — even in their native language (easily translated with Chrome).

While most feedback is positive, not all students leave reviews, so it’s important to consistently deliver your best.

Occasionally, students may leave low ratings unrelated to the teacher (like platform issues). In such cases, you can dispute the rating via a simple Google form.

Your monthly average rating (out of 5 stars) is tracked and reviewed during your annual evaluation, which can impact eligibility for a bonus after a year of teaching.

Is teaching on Edusogno sustainable as a full-time job?

It depends on your priorities.

I chose this job for guaranteed hours and steady pay — rare in hourly-rate schools with unpredictable bookings. This stability was crucial as a breadwinner.

The downside is little schedule control and working six days a week, which can be exhausting. You might miss family events or cancel classes — incurring penalties — to get a weekend off. But you adapt.

Remember, you must work only for this school. Their changing monthly schedule with 42 hours spread randomly over six days prevents working elsewhere.

Time off is determined by Edusogno and is unpaid: two weeks at Christmas, one week at Easter, and one mid-August.

For me, the stability outweighs the drawbacks.

That’s a lot to weigh up before signing up. Stability is a winner in an unpredictable job market.

How do you keep classes running smoothly when tech hiccups happen?

Have you experienced any technical issues?

Constant updates from the school mean technical issues happen often. So you need to be tech-savvy and able to troubleshoot yourself. Refreshing your screen or restarting tabs usually fixes most problems.

When issues do affect classes, reporting is easy via WhatsApp, email, or chat, and the school acts quickly, removing penalties caused by technical faults.

I use a MacBook and have experience with Windows, so being comfortable troubleshooting your headset, camera, and Google Meet is key.

I rely on a power station that keeps me going for 4–5 hours during rare outages, and thankfully, load shedding hasn’t caused any teaching disruptions recently.

Tech is one of several things that can go wrong in an online classroom, so make sure you’re prepared.

Does Edusogno offer support to teachers?

There are two main support teams:

  • tech support — reachable via WhatsApp, email, or chat for tech issues, and
  • the tutoring team — for questions about teaching, schedules, hours and pay.

However, there isn’t a teacher community or encouragement to connect with fellow tutors. While personal contact between teachers isn’t forbidden, it’s not encouraged or facilitated by the school, which keeps teacher and student information private.

Support contact usually happens only when something’s wrong — you’re expected to work independently without micromanagement, which I genuinely appreciate.

I used to have bi-weekly check-ins with the academic manager, but now it’s just a monthly performance review due to the school’s rapid growth.

All lessons are planned by the school. Teachers simply follow whatever is uploaded to their weekly agenda.

It would be great to have channels to connect and support each other, but the school doesn’t currently offer them.

Would you recommend Edusogno?

I would recommend this platform if you enjoy teaching adults, especially confident adults who keep conversations flowing smoothly.

However, if managing your own schedule and flexibility are priorities for you, Edusogno probably isn’t a good fit.

Edusogno sounds perfect for the focused teacher who values guaranteed hours and engaging conversations with students. Structured and steady work, plus pre-planned lessons, means more time to focus on the business of teaching.

Sonya’s struck a balance that works for her. And who knows? You could find yours too, teaching online with Edusogno.
