I've worked with many teachers who joined us expecting to stay for a year before moving on to their next adventure. Quite a few are still here. Not because they planned it that way, but because they enjoyed the work, built great friendships and found opportunities they hadn't expected.

At English Excel, we've been teaching children across Hong Kong since 2000. We're a British-owned organisation with centres across the city, and we're passionate about helping children develop confidence and fluency in English through engaging, interactive lessons.

Teaching at English Excel

One of the first things new teachers notice is our class size.

With a maximum of four students per class, you can focus on teaching rather than classroom management. You'll quickly get to know your students, understand how they learn and celebrate their progress as they develop confidence and independence.

There's something incredibly rewarding about teaching a child who barely speaks during their first few lessons and then watching them gradually become confident enough to participate, share ideas and communicate naturally in English.

Our students come to us for a variety of reasons. Some are preparing for school interviews. Others need support with phonics, reading or grammar. Many simply need encouragement and practice speaking English in a comfortable environment.

Whatever their starting point, our aim is always the same: helping children become confident communicators.

Moving to Hong Kong

I know one of the biggest concerns people have when considering teaching overseas is the move itself.

The good news is that we've helped hundreds of teachers make the transition successfully and we're there to support you every step of the way.

We'll arrange your employer-sponsored work visa before you arrive and meet you at the airport when you land. Transport to your accommodation is organised for you, so you're not left trying to navigate a new city after a long flight.

We also offer affordable accommodation on Hong Kong Island, which many of our new teachers choose when they first arrive. It's a great way to settle into the city quickly and start building friendships with colleagues.

Perhaps one of the things candidates appreciate most is that we understand relocating abroad isn't always cheap. That's why salary advances are available if needed. In fact, we've had teachers arrive in Hong Kong with little more than £100 in their pocket and settle in comfortably with the support we provide.

Life in Hong Kong

For many teachers, Hong Kong ends up being much more than simply a place to work.

It's a city full of contrasts. One moment you're surrounded by skyscrapers, cafés and bustling streets; the next you're walking through country parks, relaxing on a beach or catching a ferry to one of the outlying islands.

The public transport system is excellent, making it easy to explore every corner of the city. The food scene is incredible, the city is exceptionally safe and there is always something new to discover.

Hong Kong also serves as a fantastic gateway to the rest of Asia. During weekends and holidays, many of our teachers travel to destinations such as Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea and Singapore.

The experience of living overseas, meeting people from all over the world and discovering a completely different culture is something that stays with you long after your contract ends.
