Frequently Asked Questions

With so much choice and such a vast amount of conflicting information available on the Internet it can be difficult for potential TEFL course students to make the correct choice. You should ensure that your TEFL course includes 120-hours of TEFL tuition, as this is the international standard for entry level teaching positions.

If you feel you can benefit from face-to-face tuition, including the opportunity to practice all you have learnt in the classroom, you should choose a combined 120-hour TEFL course with 20-hours of face-to-face training. If you cannot attend a classroom TEFL course, or perhaps are looking for a more flexible way to get TEFL qualified, you should choose an online-only 120-hour TEFL course.

Our combined 120-hour TEFL course costs $560 & the 120-hour online course costs $320; this includes all of the course materials.  You will receive your official TEFL certificate in the post within 7 days of completing the course.  Our students take an average of 4-6 weeks to complete the course. If you need your certificate quicker you can use our Fast Track system for an additional fee of $30.

The easiest way to pay is to register for your course and pay directly on our website at the time of registration, or you can call us to enrol over the phone. We accept all major credit or debit cards. You can also pay by bank transfer/BACS. Please contact us if you wish to pay with one of these methods on: +1 347 434 9694.

If you choose the 120-hour online TEFL course, then you must pay the full course fee up front. If you choose the combined 120-hour TEFL course then you can choose to pay the full course fee up front, or if your course is over two weeks away you can book on a course by paying a $80 deposit. You will need to clear the remaining balance no later than one week before your course date. Access to the online course is provided on receipt of the full balance payment.

As the USA's leading TEFL course provider our courses are very popular. We allow bookings up until 24 hours before the course date, but we recommend you book well in advance. Our courses often sell out up to 4 weeks before the course date. You can see which course locations we still have places on by clicking here.

Our students take an average of 4-6 weeks to complete both the combined and online versions of the course. The combined course includes 20-hours of face-to-face classroom tuition over two days. You have 6 months to complete either course from the date you pay for the course in full.

After you have completed the 20-hour weekend TEFL course it is not compulsory to complete the 100 hour online course, as you will be provided with a 20-hour TEFL certificate. Most employers, especially those paying good salaries, will require you to have completed 120 hours of TEFL tuition. This is why we give all of our students the option of completing the 100 hour additional course, so they can maximise their chances of employment. Your 120-hour TEFL certificate will allow you to apply for almost any TEFL job in the world.

You do not need any particular qualifications to attend one of our courses, but you must be able to speak English fluently.

You do not need to be a native speaker to study our course, just as long as you are conversationally fluent in English. Roughly 20% of our students are non-native speakers.

You will receive The TEFL Academy 120-hour TEFL certificate, approved and authenticated by the World TEFL Accrediting Commission (WTEFLAC), an international body that accredits and regulates TEFL courses. This qualification qualifies you to teach English as a foreign language internationally.

The TEFL Academy is also accredited by Training Qualifications UK (TQUK) an Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation, a UK government department) regulated awarding body.

Both the combined and online 120-hour TEFL courses are assessed by a mix of short exams and coursework.

It is possible to fail exams and coursework. Over 90% of our students pass the course first time. If you fail the course we see this as a problem with our teaching rather than your ability. If you fail the 20-hour classroom training session, on the combined course, we will invite you to retake the course on the next available date at no extra cost. If you fail an exam or any of your coursework on the online course you have up to 6 months to retake/resubmit your work.

We are fully aware that most of our students have not studied grammar since they were at school as children, as a result grammar is covered in the course. Your grammar skills will be satisfactory to complete the course if you are fluent in English.

All course materials are included in the course fee. You do not need any books or special materials to bring with you to the course.

Peer to peer teaching practice is one of the fundamental aspects of the course.

On average around 20 people will attend each one of our course dates. Please note these are only averages and course numbers do fluctuate.

Disabled access varies from one training facility to another. Please contact us to find out specific information for individual training centres.

You will be qualified to teach both children and adults.

Your certificate will be issued, approved and dispatched within 7 days of the course completion date. Our students take an average of 4-6 weeks to complete the course. Please contact the office for fast track options.

You can start applying for jobs in the USA and abroad as soon as you have passed the course. Your TEFL certificate will be issued, approved and delivered within 7 days of the course completion date. If you need your certificate quicker you can use our Fast Track system for an additional fee of $30.

There are literally hundreds of jobs boards and other resources newly qualified teachers can use to find employment. We will point you in the right direction and assist you in making job applications. All students who complete the full 120-hour course can also apply for jobs on our exclusive jobs board.

Potential TEFL course students should remember that their prospective employers are likely to be based outside the country in which they complete their TEFL training. This means that accreditation bodies based locally may not be recognised by employers abroad. This is why TEFL Academy is fully accredited by the World TEFL Accrediting Commission (WTEFLAC). The WTEFLAC is an international body that accredits and regulates TEFL courses.

Your 6-month access to the online course will start as soon as you pay for the course in full. It doesn’t matter how much of the online course you have completed before the weekend training but we recommend completing at least one module before you attend.

You can contact our team of dedicated tutors through your online course ticket system. They will respond to you within 24 hours via email. If you have any non-academic enquiries, then please contact the team at head office.
