As a student pursuing a general studies degree, I have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of subjects and develop a well-rounded education. This is advantageous because it allows me to gain knowledge across multiple academic disciplines and broaden my perspective.
My general studies degree still offers valuable skills that can be applied in any profession. Courses in communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving are included, which are highly sought after by employers. These skills will help me succeed in the professional world and adapt to different situations.
One of the benefits of a general studies degree is its flexibility. I have the freedom to choose elective courses that align with my interests and goals. Whether I have a passion for science, art, history, or social sciences, I can explore these subjects and potentially discover new areas of interest. As a paraprofessional in a middle school, my role is to support students and create an engaging learning environment. I work closely with teachers to assist with various tasks. In the classroom, I help manage behavior, promote student engagement, and maintain a positive atmosphere. I provide individualized assistance to students, especially those with special education needs, helping them with academic tasks and implementing their personalized education plans. I also help prepare materials and set up equipment for lessons. During non-instructional times, I supervise students to ensure their safety and encourage positive behavior. I collect data on student progress and behavior, documenting observations as needed. Communication and collaboration are crucial aspects of my job, as I work closely with teachers, parents, and other staff to support students effectively. Overall, I play a vital role in providing personalized assistance, creating an inclusive environment, and supporting students throughout their middle school experience.
