Education
This is a one-year program that introduced me to teaching. This Program taught me the use of technology for learning, how to use google classroom and share work with learners through the website. I had my first teaching experience while I was a student teacher for 3 months at Diocesan School for Girls, teaching IsiXhosa as a Second Additional language and at Victoria Girls High School.
I majored in Anthropology which taught me understanding and communication skills. This subject exposed me to different ways of life. From studying Anthropology I gained more love for travelling and seeing unique cultures that exist.
My Other Major is Journalism and Media Studies. I specialized in Radio, News production and editing. I had to research and prepare news stories. This gave me experience of research skills, reading and writing. I learnt social skills and confidence in my communication skills, as I sometimes had to approach people and interview them for stories.
Experience
I take full responsibility for Languages and Life Orientation subjects. I am able to prepare lesson plans, read and understand the curriculum then teach it to learners. I manage my classroom's discipline and write reports on learners' behaviors and academic progress. I enjoy teaching, as it is not only explaining the content but more about shaping young mindsets. Teaching has allowed me to learn more patience and tolerance as I have worked with a range of people. I am a certified netball coach and umpire; I teach my learners about sport conduct and safety. I enjoy working with children. In this job I have learned to use technology for teaching and learning purposes.
I worked close with the head teacher. I assisted with lesson plans and teaching. Mostly I worked with a small group of learners to go revise the work done in class. I had to prepare for my own lessons, assess learners and mark their work. I then learnt to write reports on each learners progress. This experience exposed me to children who had no previous knowledge of the language they were taught. I then had to use their current home language to introduce the new language, activities like finding the similarities in word sounds across languages made it easy for them to understand and learn the new language. I believe in inclusive teaching and learning, that strategy allows every type of learner to thrive academically. I am a hard worker and I understand the importance of team work in a work environment. I enjoy seeing my learners reach their potential and learning from mistakes.
