A landlocked country with a population of just over 2 million people, Botswana is one of Africa’s most stable countries and one of the fastest growing economies in the world. In terms of big cities, Botswana does not have much to offer but you don’t come to Botswana to experience city life. In the south is the capital of Gaborone, which offers museums, diamond mines and nightlife, but that’s about all the country has for city-dwellers.
One of the best safari destinations in the world, Botswana boasts the Okavango Delta – a UNESCO World Heritage Site, – the Chobe National Park and the Kalahari Desert on its list of must-visit attractions. Botswana can offer you all the animal experiences you could ever dream of. Chobe National Park has one of the largest game concentrations in Africa. It is especially well known for its huge elephant population but it is also possible to see lions, zebra, wild dogs, cheetahs, leopards and hyena. A visit to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve might give you a glimpse of the famous black-maned lions.
Teaching opportunities
The majority of teaching positions in Botswana are volunteer positions, but it is possible to find a job in one of the universities. These jobs are usually well-paid and include end-of-contract bonuses, medical insurance and several weeks of holidays.
