How to Begin Teaching in Croatia

It is no secret that tourism is booming in Croatia, but just because all your friends and family have been here and got the t-shirts doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience this amazing country yourself – there are many reasons why Croatia is so popular.

Croatia is a country of more than a thousand islands and plenty of sunshine, making this a holiday destination of choice for many travellers. Many people come here to see the Roman ruins and the historic architecture such as the Diocletian Palace in Split and the walled city of Dubrovnik. In fact, Croatia has seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites for you to enjoy, all within close distance of one another.

But of course, no visit to Croatia would be complete without a visit to the stunning white sand beaches of the Dalmation coast or island hopping in the summer, including a stop off at the island of Pag, which is one of the biggest party areas in Europe with bars and discos operating 24 hours a day during the summer.

So, whether it’s history and architecture or sun and summer fun you are looking for, Croatia is where you will find it.

Teaching Opportunities

TEFL jobs can be found in private language schools and if you have teaching qualifications, international schools. The majority of these positions will be found in Zagreb; however, many of the jobs available will be for part-time work.

A BA/BS degree is necessary to apply for this teaching position. Contracts are typically 12 to 24 months long, with hiring occurring year-round. Non-EU nationals will need a work visa, while EU citizens are exempt from this requirement. The teaching position is open to both children and adults. The average monthly cost of living is between 3,500 and 5,000 HKR, while the average monthly salary ranges from 8,000 to 10,000 HKR.
