TEFL Course Information

The TEFL Academy is the UK’s leading provider of TEFL courses in Exeter and across the country. Our 120-hour course is recognised by TEFL employers both in the UK and abroad. When you study on our TEFL course in Exeter, you can be sure you are receiving the most in-depth tuition available in the UK. The course is designed to develop confident, knowledgeable EFL professionals with the qualification that can take them right around the world.

Most good employers will want new teachers to have completed 120-hours of TEFL tuition. In addition some employers may prefer 20-hours of the training to have been completed in the classroom. That’s why we’ve designed the 120-hour combined TEFL course to include both a face-to-face course component backed up with online study. The TEFL course includes:

  • A 20-hour TEFL course in Exeter over one weekend
  • A 100-hour online TEFL course to be completed within your own time (generally 4-6 weeks)

After you have successfully concluded both aspects of the TEFL course, you will be presented with your globally recognised 120-Hour TEFL Certificate from The TEFL Academy. This TEFL qualification will give you all you need to find placements all over the world and in the UK too.

Completed your course and not sure about your next step? Take a look at our exclusive TEFL Jobs Board to give you some inspiration.

Course options explained

With so much choice and such a vast amount of conflicting information available on the Internet it can be difficult for potential TEFL course students to make the correct choice. You should ensure that your TEFL course includes 120-hours of TEFL tuition, as this is the international standard for entry level teaching positions.

You will see many courses available that are shorter than 120-hours, these options are TEFL taster courses and will not be accepted by most employers. We have never seen a job that requires more than 120-hours of TEFL tuition.

If you feel you would benefit from face-to-face tuition, including the opportunity to practice all you have learnt in the classroom, you should choose a combined 120-hour TEFL course with 20-hours of face-to-face training. Combined courses may be preferred by some employers.

Tutor

Debbie Hooper, TEFL Trainer

Debbie hs been working in TEFL since 1993, both abroad and in the UK.

She started out as a teacher in Salzburg, Austria in private language schools and at university. Wanting to get in to teacher training, she moved to Auckland, New Zealand in 2002 where she trained and worked as a teacher trainer. She has led a couple of volunteer teams to China and trained Chinese English teachers. Debbie loves the challenge and variety that TEFL provides and claims that teaching, is unlike other jobs, if you're bored, then it's your fault! Over the years, she has been to Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Siberia (twice for work) and much of Western and Eastern Europe and say she is always amazed at the number of different people you have the opportunity to meet and the ongoing chances for travel.
