TEFL Course Information

The TEFL Academy is located next to Euston tube and main line stations – it really is a TEFL London training school situated in the centre of the capital.

Learning at The TEFL Academy is one of the most productive ways to embark on your career as a TEFL teacher. When looking for TEFL jobs abroad, many applicants find that TEFL employers, particularly employers offering competitive salaries, will want new teachers to have completed 120-hours of TEFL training. In addition some employers may prefer 20-hours to have been studied in the classroom. That’s why The TEFL Academy created and now runs a combined 120-hour TEFL course in London to provide 20-hours of classroom learning and 100-hours of online learning. This provides TEFL students with the brightest prospects in the world of TEFL.

On completion of your London-based TEFL course, you will be awarded The TEFL Academy ‘120-Hour TEFL Certificate’: this is internationally recognised by TEFL employers. With this TEFL certificate you also have the qualification that is required to teach English as a foreign language in the multi-ethnic city of London and anywhere else in the world that you may decide to teach English.

Once qualified, you can begin looking for your ideal TEFL job, so don’t just sit there – take a look at the exclusive TEFL Jobs Board and pleasantly surprise yourself.

Course options explained

With so much choice and such a vast amount of conflicting information available on the Internet it can be difficult for potential TEFL course students to make the correct choice. You should ensure that your TEFL course includes 120-hours of TEFL tuition, as this is the international standard for entry level teaching positions.

You will see many courses available that are shorter than 120-hours, these options are TEFL taster courses and will not be accepted by most employers. We have never seen a job that requires more than 120-hours of TEFL tuition.

If you feel you would benefit from face-to-face tuition, including the opportunity to practice all you have learnt in the classroom, you should choose a combined 120-hour TEFL course with 20-hours of face-to-face training. Combined courses may be preferred by some employers.

Tutor

Elizabeth Mahony, Course Director

Liz has been involved in the theory and practice of TEFL education for over 22 years.

Her career started in Spain in 1991, where her first teaching job was in a small primary school teaching English to children. With no knowledge of the business it was trial and error; however, she loved the job, after returning to England, became TEFL qualified. Over the years she has built up substantial experience teaching in all areas of TEFL and ESOL, including classroom-based teaching, 1:1, asylum seekers and working abroad in language and secondary schools, sharing expertise with colleagues in schools in the UK, Europe and the Caribbean. Liz is our busiest tutor, teaching 5 courses a month with us and is known for her great sense of humour.

"Over the years, I have built up substantial experience teaching in all areas of TEFL and ESOL."

Harvey O'Leary, TEFL Trainer

Harvey has been teaching for over twenty years and has worked as a Director of Studies at a private Language School and for seven years was Head of English at a Further Education college in London.

His career has included work in Ireland, France and Greece and, apart from TEFL teaching, he has worked in school management and quality assurance. Harvey likes to make the teacher training course fun and interactive and to give trainees as many opportunities as possible to practice and develop the skills that they will use in their future teaching practice.

"I like to make the teacher training course fun and interactive."
