Although there is no strict requirement for a potential teacher to have a TEFL certificate in order to secure an ESL or EFL job in the Czech Republic, your chances are significantly better if you do have one. A degree is essential in the cities, but a rural school may overlook this in order to obtain the services of a native speaker.
Jobs are readily available in private and public schools – primary and secondary, as well as in one of the many English academies scattered throughout the country. And although the preference is for European Union citizens, there is no hard-and-fast rule, especially if you are willing to work outside of the larger metro areas in the countryside where there is a large demand for English native speakers.
