You can enrol on any of the following TEFL courses: Online Level 3 TEFL Certificate, Online Level 5 TEFL Diploma or Combined Level 5 TEFL Diploma, depending on how you intend to use your TEFL qualification. So, which option from our TEFL courses is right for you?
Our Level 3 TEFL certificate course will introduce you to TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language). It is an online-only course and leads to a 120hr TEFL certificate. It is the best option if you want to find casual work teaching English, such as volunteer teaching, teaching whilst backpacking, plus some online roles.
Our Level 5 TEFL diploma course goes into more detail. It can be studied online or online with classroom learning (combined) and leads to a 168hr TEFL diploma. Our classroom learning is delivered face-to-face at one of our Irish Campuses. A Level 5 TEFL course is the best option if you want to find formal work teaching English, such as the contracted roles from our TEFL Jobs Board, or government teaching programmes, which usually include accommodation, flight reimbursement and help to get your work visa.

A combined Level 5 TEFL course, or an online-only Level 5 TEFL is recommended if you are considering a formal TEFL job, or teaching long-term. A Level 3 TEFL course is perfectly adequate if you are interested in teaching English as a volunteer or in an informal context. The important consideration for your TEFL qualification is that it is at least 120 hours and the TEFL course provider is internationally recognised, accredited and reputable.
With The TEFL Academy you can do a TEFL course online, which means you can do it from wherever you might be. If you choose to do the Level 5 168-hour combined course, you can do the 10-hour practical component in Dublin or Galway.
The TEFL course you choose depends on your needs. If you are wanting to teach English as a foreign language in a volunteer or short-term position (think summer camp), then a Level 3 course is totally adequate. However, if you are looking for more formal or long-term employment, a combined Level 5 TEFL course or an online-only Level 5 TEFL is recommended. Absolutely! These days an online TEFL certification is equally as reputable as a face-to-face certification. What is important is the length of the course, the accreditation of the qualification, and the reputation of the course provider. The TEFL Academy offers a Level 3 120-hour online course and a Level 5 168-hour online course. These qualifications are 100% online. If you would like to do a practical component to complement your Level 5 course, you can do a 10-hour face-to-face component. Another option is the 40-hour Level 5 Observed Practice course, which is also done online.
If you are over 16 years old and are a fluent English speaker, then you are able to do a TEFL course and become TEFL-qualified.
