How to Begin Teaching in Czech Republic

It’s a country of castles, picturesque villages and beer.

The Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) is a small country in the heart of Europe. It’s a country of castles, picturesque villages and beer. Since the fall of communism in 1989, the Czech Republic has grown into a top European tourist destination. People from all over the world come here to discover the home of beer, visit beer gardens and, of course, drink beer. If you can put down the beer, though, you will be able to walk the cobblestone streets and discover architectural treasures.
The Czech Republic has a fascinating history, which can still be experienced. Prague is the capital and is well known for its historical centre where you can see the Astronomical Clock and walk across Charles Bridge. Bohemian Paradise is an area known for its rock formations and castles. Twelve UNESCO Heritage Sites have been recognised in the Czech Republic so you can imagine that there is a lot of cultural attractions to explore. North of the city of Brno you can spend some time in nature and explore the Macocha Caves.

For such a historical country it is interesting that the nightlife in the Czech Republic is world-famous, especially in Prague and the student town of Brno. Socialising over a beer is, of course, popular but there are many bars and clubs where you can dance the night away. On a quieter note, there are many music events and art galleries to satisfy your cultural cravings.

Largely due to the absence of domestic and international conflict and a very low rate of crime, the Czech Republic ranks as the sixth most safe place to live on earth. The Czech language has two forms, one being formal and one being informal but it is said that the native folk are very accommodating to foreigners who use either in an incorrect way. The Czechs are staunchly proud of their native language and it is said to be one of the most difficult in the world to learn.

There must be something in the water in the Czech Republic as down through history the country has produced many great inventors. For example, Czech is credited with coming up with the first grounded lightning rod, the compass, the screw propeller, the plastic explosive Semtex, sugar cubes and soft contact lenses and plenty more! Ice hockey is the Czech Republic’s favourite sport a with the national team being among the best in the world and their most iconic victory coming in the shape of an Olympic win in 1998. The team has also won six gold medals in the World Championships. But Ice hockey is not the only popular sport in the Czech Republic, football, tennis, handball, volleyball and athletics are also commonly played.

Teaching Opportunities

Aside from finding work in the state schools, there are numerous language schools or you could come over for a quick summer camp. Teaching freelance is also an option in order to teach Business English in-house for a company.
